Fortune Island Philippines

Fortune Island is a island resort in Batangas Philippines. The 27 hectare (67 acre) island lies about 14 kilometers (8.7mi) off the coast of Nasugbu in Batangas.

 

 

 

Development and Ownership

Fortune island is a private island owned by Laurentina Pestano before. And It was turned over to the goberment and the island was now owned by Jose Antonio Leviste, a fomer governor of Batangas province.
Jose Antonio Leviste opened the Fortune Island Resort Club in the island in 1995. The resort was made along a 20 metre (66 foot) stretch of pristine white sand. Some rest houses is facing the water. The resort features a salt water swimming pool, cabana, clubhouse, basketball court, small serpentarium, helipad, reptile zoo for snakes. The resort also has an acropolis with Grecian pillars and statues on the corner of the island overlooking the sea. The resort also have museum dedicated to the San Diego, a Spanish warship that sank off the island.

Some goverment officials believe that Jose Antonio Leviste ownership of the Fortune Island underwent (scheming procedures) just to acquire both administrative and juducial tittles.These officials believe that these tittles he wants should never have been granted for two reasons, first the island is classified as a marine served under proclamation 1801, signed and issued in 1978 by President Ferdinand Marcos
and second Section 16 of Presidential Degree 705 “the Revised Forestry Code” which gives that (areas less than 250 hectares which are far from, or are not contiguous with any certified alienable and disposable land). Some goverment officials contend that subdividing Fortune Island info lots was a (ploy) to skirt environmental and other pertinent laws.
