President Duterte apologized to the Jewish world in a speech Sunday but he visited the Beit Yaaccov synagogue in Makati city to press his expression of regret and assure that he was not racist, adding his wife, now seperated from him, has Jewish ties.
“I want to apologize and it come from my heart, Pres. Duterte said to the members of Jewish Association of the Philippines.
Derides the critics who had compared him to Hitler, Rodrigo Duterte acknowledge he blunder in referencing what happened to Jewish people under Nazi leader.
I said the word Jewish and that was terribly wrong and for that im apologizing,” Pres. Duterte said, But im not racist member of this republic.
According to his original remarks on Friday, Rodrigo Duterte raised the retoric over his anti drug crusade to a new way by comparing it to Hitler and the Holocaust and saying the he would be happy to slaughter 3 million Filipino addicts.
In that speech, the president said without eleborating that he has been pictured to be cousin of Hitler, by his critics.
His remarks drew shock and outrage. In his apology Monday, he said he had never intented to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered under Hitler during the World War II.
