Nickelodeon said the park on Palawan island would be part of 400 hectare undersea development showcasing the area’s marine life the will give the fans a chance to `interact with the brand and iconic character they love`.
Nickelodeon announced it will build an underwater theme park and resort in island known as Philippine’s last ecological frontier, alarming the environmentalists.
The firm behind Spongebob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer said the park on Palawan island. Palawan was chosen for the development because `it is known to have the most beautiful beaches in the world today.` Ron Johnson said. Executive Vice President with Viacom International Media Networks, which he own Nickelodeon.
On a inital statement of Viacom the project would be in 2020 and feature restaurants and lounges 6 meters (20 feet) below sea level.
But environmental group Greenpeace said it would only destroy the area’s world famous marine ecosystem.
Viacom Philippine Partner, Coral World Park insisted that the resort would not hurt the environment.
The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development said the project had yet to be approved.
