The Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP) will get ₱53.5 million worth of force protection equipment in Israel by mid-2017. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said in recent statement that the 1,190 equipment sets will be allocated to the Joint Special Operation Group, which is the AFP’s lead unit in anti-terrorism activities.
MAROM Dolphin will supply the equipment. The Israeli company also provides protection equipment to the Israel Defense Force. The government-to-government procurement is a part of an agreement between the department of National Defense and the Israel Ministry of Defense, according to Delfin Lorenzana.
Lorenzana adds that the “specialized vests” are expected to upgrade and modernize the AFP’s capability in battling “terrorists and lawless elements.” The AFP is in the process of a modernization program aimed at building stronger defense mechanisms for security and stability, nationwide peace and economic development.
