President Duterte open new shipping route to Indonesia
The Philippines and Indonesia have agreed to open a new shipping route at the 50th meeting of the ASEAN summit. The agreement was made at a meeting of the East ASEAN growth area and announced on Friday, April 28. The new route will consist of a roll-on, roll-off ferry service between Davao City and General Santos to Bitung Indonesia.
A statement released by ASEAN said that at one and a half days travel time, the new route will be faster and cheaper shipping method. The current route from manila to Jakarta to Bitung, takes about three to five weeks according to the statement. President Duterte and Indonesian President Joko Widodo launched the new ferry at a ceremony on Sunday.
